Bream spawn on hard bottoms, and I find the most beds on rocky structures. If I see small-size gravel on the bank that runs out into the water, that is a prime place to start\u2014especially if the water depth doesn&#8217;t drop straight off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Look Beyond the Shallows (Up to 8\u201310 Feet Deep)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don&#8217;t make the mistake of thinking bedding fish are always huddled up in 2 or 3 feet of water. You can find beds of bream in water <strong>up to 8 or 10 feet deep<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the bottom is choked with grass, I\u2019ll often stand up in the boat to look for clear spots where the grass breaks. That patch of bare ground is usually a hard-bottom bed. If the fish aren&#8217;t holding shallow, I start working my way toward deeper water and fishing deeper zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember the old rule: <strong>90% of the fish are found in 10% of the water.<\/strong> Because of that, I never waste time lingering in an area or at a depth where I&#8217;m not getting bites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The Fast-Moving Search Technique<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I&#8217;m hunting for scattered fish, I make a quick cast, let the bait sit for a couple of minutes max, and then move immediately to the next tree or brush pile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Targeting Structure:<\/strong> I drop my bait as close as I can get it to large trees, single timber, clusters of trees, or submerged brush piles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bait Choice for Speed:<\/strong> While I love using crickets, <strong>worms are my go-to during this search phase<\/strong>. They stay on the hook much better, meaning I&#8217;m not constantly wasting valuable time rebaiting. Live bait consistently produces more fish for me here, but once I finally strike an active bed where they&#8217;ll hit anything, I might switch over to artificials to save time and keep my hands clean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Let the Fish Be Your Teachers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As I&#8217;m moving quickly, dropping beside structure and picking off a fish here and there, the puzzle pieces start coming together. I start paying attention to the clues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are they sitting beside single trees or tight clusters?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are they holding right up against the wood or slightly off it?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do they prefer a brush pile over a standing tree?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How are they taking the bait\u2014making the float flip on its side, or jerking it completely under hard?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It feels like being in school, and <strong>the fish are your teachers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Slow Down and Dial It In<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once those clues start painting the bigger picture, I make subtle changes and tune into exactly what they want that day. That&#8217;s when I slow my speed way down, target the exact pattern they\u2019ve shown me, and let my bait sit a little longer in the sweet spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the best part?
